Art and I did not associate in high school; it was in college that we became friends. I was walking to class early my second semester, when Art passed me said I know you. We talked for a while, and then asked if I wanted to pledge the fraternity he belonged to. That was the beginning of the fun.
He suffered a major stomach injury as kid that still affected him. He had to watch what he ate, but it did not stop him from partying and we did.
It was a business fraternity and was just what Art wanted. He said more then once that he wasn’t going to live pass thirty so he had to make his million dollars fast. Well this group of guys turned hall parties into a major cash generator to the point we were able to buy a house in Detroit.
The house was not as bad as the one in” Animal House” but still a fun place to hang out. Art was one to the two full time residences, so often he was in the middle of what was happening.
Looking for a way to make his million, he and another brother open a pizza place not too far from the house. He said there was a fortune to be had in dough, sauce and pepperoni.
Looking back, if they did not get robbed and Art just let them have the money, he might be the one that owns the Tigers & Wings.
Yes, Art affected my life and the fraternity guys that still associate with each other have not forgotten Suzie.
That was what we called him if we wanted to piss him off. We had a Halloween party and he dressed up like a girl. He wasn’t bad looking as a girl, so we called him Suzie Cream Cheese, the problem for him that handle stuck.
What is nice about time, it helps you remember the good things about people. So I can only remember the good things about Art.
