School Story
After graduation from Lakeview, I went to Central Michigan on a partial piano scholarship.(If anyone knows the whereabouts of Betty Boor, please let me know. We roomed together our freshmen years and then drifted apart). I graduated Dec.1971, married Aug. 5th, 1972 and began teaching music that Sept. in Lakeshore Public Schools. I was an elementary music/2nd grade teacher for a few years and then took off a few years to raise our 2 girls. I lived in Harper Woods, East Detroit, Clinton Township and then moved to Oakland Township. Our daughters went to Lake Orion Highschool and both were on the tennis team. Both went on to Michigan State and now Jenni works as a manager in Texas for a firm based in Chicago, and Laura is a nurse anethesist at Austin Heart Hospital. After our girls were a little older, I went back to teaching and taught in the Chippewa Valley Schools. I taught music a few years and then finished the majority of years in 5th grade. I received my masters in reading at the age of 40. I retired in 2005 with full pension at the age of 55. I loved teaching and still miss working with the kids. However, you know when that certain "energy" is not there anymore and it's time to step down.5th grade was a really fun age! I'm proud to say that 1 of my former choir students actually later became the music teacher at the same school I was teaching at and that she had gone to. In addition, another music student, after enjoying learning the recorder so much, went on and received his doctorate in music and was teaching at a college. Now that makes you feel good!!! After our girls went to college, we moved to Rochester Hills where we lived until we moved in 2007. Due to the economy and recession, my husband lost his job and he then was offered a position in Savannah, Georgia, where we lived for awhile. Later he was offered a promotion and we moved to the Phoenix, Arizona(Mesa) area. We loved living there. After 1 year, we missed our family too much so we moved back as close as possible, which brought us to the chicago suburbs. We then made it back to Mich. until moving to Texas in 2013. Here's a little more trivia:My dad passed away at the age of 58 from an unknown heart condition and my mother passed in 2012 at 90. As of 2018, sisters Walleen and Susan still living.
I enjoy reading, traveling, scrapbooking, and just being with my grandkids.
Lots of changes. As of 2016 we have 4 grandsons and one granddaughter Princess Olivia. lol We added twins in 2013 for Jenni and both Jenni and family and Laura and family now live with us in the Austin Texas area. Long story but we all moved here so we could all be together as the kids grew up.
I must say this has been very exciting thinking back all the way to 1967. I'd be anxious to hear from any of you. It's been far too long! I'll post pictures asap. Go Huskies!!!
